Mentors are adults who are committed to upholding Journeymen’s core values, which include accountability, compassion, confidentiality, creativity, respect, and being solution-oriented.
Being a mentor means you’ll be taking on the lion’s share of the effort for cultivating deep, trusting relationships with the young men and boys in our mentoring program.
We follow the LAMB model, which means that the core of your responsibility as a mentor will be to support the young men and boys with whom we work by Listening to them, Accepting them for who they are, Modeling integrity for them, and Blessing them for their strengths, efforts, and growth.
If you become a mentor, you’ll work to establish trust with our mentees by listening to them and accepting them for who they are, while challenging them to reach new levels of integrity.
You’ll also strive to model that integrity for them by challenging yourself in the same way, and empowering them by praising them for their unique strengths, talents, efforts, and personal growth.
With that in mind, you shouldn’t expect to be met in the middle, as you’ll have to continually reach out to our mentees and express interest, openness, and support to build friendships with them.
It’s hard work, and it can be frustrating at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
You’ll also have the satisfaction of providing guidance and support
to young men and boys, helping them grow and mature into
men of integrity.
